Teji Sandhu - Gori

This is the debut album by Teji Sandhu, which has been co-produced by Jaidev Kumar and the renowned Ravi Bal, who was behind the success of 'Captain Bhangre Da' and the yet to be released 'Kaun Nachdi' by Jazzy B.

A 10-track album from the newest solo Punjabi singer out of India, who is already gaining praises from many hardcore desi bhangra fans and being compared to the likes of Sukhwinder Singh.

The first release off the album is Nooh Banja which is accompanied by a video starring the Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. This is a very catchy pop-style track with a karaoke chorus that can be played at any occasion, by far one of the best songs on the album.

The tracks Nakhre and Aakhian display a more mellow and subdued side of the album. Slow melodies with profound lyrics make a good match with Teji's gentle voice. It may have been a better idea to leave the slower tracks for the second half of the album, however it is a nice change from the excitable vibe of Noo Banja.

The middle of the album picks up the pace once again with songs such as Satto and Chunni. Yet, just when you begin to think this is a pure Punjabi album, the track Silki Waal appears. This song features D'Luscious, an upcoming Canadian based female mc. Some may deem this collaboration a bit 'cheesy' others may like the merge of the mcing. I would've preferred the song minus the appearance of D'Luscious.

Jithey Gori, one word to summarise the track - Bruah! This has to be my personal favourite off the album. It has all the elements of a good bhangra track, the essential beats of Desi instruments, good lyrics, strong vocals, it is easy to listen to and makes you want to dance!

Overall a good album, will definitely do well over in India. I think the industry needs to make space for some new talented Punjabi singers. Teji Sandhu has unquestionably entered the bhangra industry on a positive note.
