Sukshinder Shinda - Collaborations Review
After many many delays Sukshinder Shindas Collaborations had finally hit the streets at a whopping £11.99 released under the Moviebox label in the UK and on Planet Recordz in America / Canada. The disc is a doube DVD disc which includes the videos and extra footage.
The first track titled Collaborations is the biggest track on the album featuring Gurdas Mann, Abrar Ul Haq and Sukshinder Shinda. This 7 minute track is something special, Gurdas Mann's voice is just something else definatly check this out. The beats good and the lyrics are deadly.
Next up a Collaboration would not be complete if Jazzy B aint on it and we have the track Oh Na Kuri Labdi. I feel the production on this was a big let down, but the Shinda and Jazzy B collaboration still works as its a proven mixture looking back at previous Jazzy B albums where Shinda has been the producer.
AS Kang the legend features on the 3rd track titled Groove Boliyan. I feel the track was ruined with the "Whos Gonna Make You Rock" whacked into the track after a few minutes, as well as other phrases ruined this track for me. Its not a bad track but noway is it near any of the AS Kang songs of the past. Shin (DCS) is on the fourth track of the album with a song entitled Kurhi Akhiyan Nall. I'm a Shin (DCS) fan and think hes under rated but had some good hits, but I'm not sure what Sukshinder Shinda was thinking with the production of this. This one track was going into a totally different bollywood style techno direction and it was a big disappointment and probably is the worst track on the album. Once again Sukshinder Shinda did not feature on this track (singing wise).
The late Mohan Singh Nimmana features on the 5th track entitled Hala Lalla setting off with a tumbi before the dhol beats kick in. This track is standard and is nothing special, seems as though its just a track filler.
Meshi Eshara features on the track Boliyan Te Boliyan. The beat seems as if its already been done in a very similar form on Groove Boliyan, this is actaully not a bad track and its grown onto me to become one of my favorites on this Shinda release. Sukshinder Shinda did not feature on this track (singing wise). Manjit Papu bursts into the seventh track with a heavy dholki and feel of a proper folk desi track back in india. The tracks titled Charka I very much liked the production on this track and the track overall is'nt that bad, it will grow on on you. Biggest surprise on this one was that Sukshinder Shinda did'nt actaully sing any lines on this track like he has done on all previous tracks on this Collaborations album.
Takeova ENT have been big playas with Jazzy B and Sukshinder Shinda so no surprise of the inclusion of them on the album. This track is entitled Shoulder Surf and the production on this is upto the Shinda standard which has been missing on several of the tracks. This ones gonna be a big hit with major radio play already started on it. Checkout the video which is playing on all major asian tv networks.
Overall Sukshinder Shinda - Collaborations is quite a bit of a disappointment. With a hefty £11.99 price tag it is one of the most expensive Bhangra Albums to be released. The production has lacked in several tracks and some of the tracks have been a big disappointment especially with the amount of hype that Collaborations had gathered. Having said that Gurdas Mann on the first track is just amazing, as well as Shoulder Surf, Oh Na Kuri Labdi and Boliyan Te Boliyan if your budget for an album can strech to £11.99 then Buy It. An album like this with big lengendary names may not come out again, and with big names in the lineup it was a bit of a disappointment.
House OF Bhangra Rating: 6.5 / 10
