Mika is the younger brother of the distinguished singer Daler Mehndi, and he presents us with his fifth solo release named ‘Something Something’ A big hit over in South Asia, and making moves in the charts in the UK too. Over in India he is labelled a leader in ‘Indipop’ but tracks such as Marge Sohniye are more than just ‘pop’ they are dance-floor fillers. The album includes nine songs, which are mostly Punjabi dance/pop influenced. The title track ‘Something Something’ is one hell of a catchy song. The chorus is very ‘karaoke-able’ and proves to us the Mika can sing in Hindi in addition to Punjabi. The video to accompany the song allows us to see Mika perform at what he does best. Marge Sohniye is the other main release off the album; it has a unique video to go together with it. Punn Khat Le features the eminent Cheshire Cat who brings an urban desi feel to the track. Jaatta Ka Chhora is sung by Mika in his inimitable style, along with a nice melody to match. Middle of the album takes on more of a Punjabi folk style with main tracks being Mundee Wardee and Sajni. Coming to a close, Nee Mera Dil and Mere Dil Mein slow the album right down to a more mellow and placid vibe. These are two different yet pleasant songs to end a very fresh and vibrant album on. The album includes three ‘bonus’ tracks § Something Something [Unplugged] § Marge Sohniye [Dholak Down Mix] § Something Something [Club Mix] Mika sings, writes and composes all of his own music, and this talent is giving him a large fan-base worldwide. ‘Something Something’ is nothing short of a party album, filled with enough songs to get the dance floor rocking, it is a nice album for the summer.
