Bikram Singh - American Jugni Review This is Bikram Singh’s second album featuring 10 tracks, released on the VIP records label and produced by the likes of Tigerstyle and Ravi Bal.
The opening track, which is also the title track, named American Jugni is the first song to feature in the video medley. An upbeat song with a catchy chorus, with a dhol and tumbi beat to make anyone dance! This is a song representing and advocating all the Stateside Jugni’s out there.
With the sweet sounding vocals of the female Punjabi singer Gunjan, combined with Bikram, the song Kawan is already labelled one of the best tracks of 2005. Kawan has had plenty of airplay on radio, and is the final song to feature in the video medley. This is by far the best track off this album. There is no contest.
Kei Katal Hongay and Akh Nagni both have a ‘desi folk’ vibes to the songs, the songs are what some may describe as classic bhangra. Bhabi Munda Lambran Da is sung from a female perspective, and has a laid back easy listening feel to the song.
The following track is like a wake up call! The hard-hitting lyrics and style of Chaklo Gandasay is a huge change from anything in the first half of the album. The remix with Blitzkrieg (Canadian MC) has a very rough, fierce and aggressive manner this song could be classed as ‘fight music’
Sada Dil it brings a nice mellow feel to the album with its smooth lyrics. Guys, listen up for some slick one-liners to whisper to your kuriyaan (Haha) Luggian is another melodious track, personally for some reason I feel it has a slight ‘Bollywood’ feel to it, but nonetheless a nice song to bring the album to a close.
This album has proved that Bikram Singh is a man of many talents, a writer, vocalist and a producer. He really is a leading light for the new generation of Bhangra. He is definitely one artist we need to keep an eye on in the future. 8/10
