Bazaar Records Presents - Raw As Folk (Music by Tru-Skool) Review

Where do I begin with this one... I'm sure you all have heard about Tru-Skool his first album World Is Born alongside Specialist in 2004 was another turning point in Bhangra. Specialist and Tru-Skool had just created a master piece with their unique beats powerful lyrics and World Is Born was hailed as the best album of 2004. In 2006 we had Repazent two years after World Is Born and again Repazent featured Tru-Skool alongside Specialist and Kaka Bhaniawalla who is becoming the new Amar Arshi and Lehmber Hussainpuri. One year after Repazent, Tru-Skool is set to release his debut self produced album in the form of Bazaar Records Presents - Raw As Folk. Tru-Skool aka Sukhjit Singh Olk also takes to the mic and sings his first ever track on Raw As Folk.

Raw As Folk bursts into the scene with Various Artists featuring on the first track titled Raw As Folk Bolian. The track features Kulvinder Singh Johal, Kaka Bhainivaala, Dippa Dosanjh and more artists with Tru-Skool doing the music. One of the best tracks on the album.

Next up we have Mukhra Gulaab sung by Kulvinder Singh Johal who also sang Hak Dhi Kammal and Pharangi Rall Ke from the Repazent album. I think we will be seeing a lot more of Kulvinder Singh Johal in the feature and I for one cannot wait.

Guess who is back again and NO its not Lehmber paaji but Kaka Bhainivaala with Gabru Haan Dha. Just like Daru Pee Ke Gabru Haan Dha is set to be a blockbuster of a track although I do feel already that there are parts of the track mainly where you just get the beat being played for a long period of time that actually lets the track down. The music on this is actually quite different but also quite similar to previous work.

Dippa Dosanjh features with Tere Nakhrey Ne the best thing about this track is that the production skills are totally different to what you are used to hearing when you hear a Tru-Skool track.

So far so good with nearly half the album done, the fifth track is Sadha Sukhi with Gurbhej Brar on the vocals. If you can remember Gurbhej Brar also featured on Repazent with vocals for Paun Boliyan and Kaali Gani. This time the production goes back to the similar styles of World Is Born and Repazent.

I don’t know why but just like Gabru Haan Dha a 15-20 second instrumental / DJ scratching gap was left. This track is actually growing on me as I've heard it about 4 times now. This track would be most certainly one to watch out for.

Kaka, Kaka, Kaka Bhainivaala screeches in with Gidheh Vich once again can this man go wrong with his vocals? The samples of this track where out a while ago and this track was creating the hype for the album Raw As Folk. Will be a popular track at weddings and clubs!

Choot Diya vocals by Kulvinder Singh Johal is the 7th track. This is a half decent track but again the production is similar.

Gurbhej Brar is back again with Hai Meri Maa a very decent track with good production. Again has some scartching / mixing towards the end of the track. Overall Hai Meri Maa is a powerfull track that will do well.

Finally the last track of album features Tru-Skool aka Sukhjit Singh Olk with vocals on Chad Khairra Bannieh Dha. This is Tru-Skool's first attempt at singing on a track. It's hard not to say that his voice sounds similar and when you do hear the track you would also say his voice seems familiar to that of a legend who is no longer with us. The big question is if this is an imitated voice or natural voice. The track starts off with a tumbi and tabla giving this track a traditional old skool style. 2 minutes into the track you hear the similar beats of the previous albums.

Overall this is a decent album Tru-Skool has done a good job on the production but again its very similar to previous albums World Is Born and Repazent. The Raw As Folk Boliyan will almost certainly be dropping at weddings during the summer periods. The album certainly is Raw As Folk... The lyrics are raw and the production is raw if you like your traditional punjabi beats yet still being modern this album is for you
